About the Transit Development Plan
A transit development plan (TDP) is a detailed guide that helps establish the planning and goals of transit systems. A TDP assesses the current state of a public transit system and projects the upcoming needs over a 10-year period. TDPs are required for agencies receiving state funds and are updated every five years with the input of local organizations, stakeholders, and the public.
The TDP will help establish what improvements, maintenance, and changes are needed for Tri-Rail over the next decade. Your feedback is an important part of the process and is highly valuable to SFRTA.
About us
The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) is a State of Florida agency responsible for developing and coordinating a regional transportation system in South Florida. The commuter rail service, known as Tri-Rail, operates along 72 miles of the South Florida Rail Corridor (SFRC) and eight miles of the Florida East Coast Railway (FECR), connecting Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties.
Playing a crucial role in regional transportation, Tri-Rail operates seven days a week, providing reliable transportation options for over six million Floridians. First launched in 1989, Tri-Rail now averages over 15,000 passenger trips each weekday and about 8,000 passenger trips each weekend. Tri-Rail strives to maintain an on-time performance rate of 90% or higher to ensure reliable and efficient service for its passengers.
The SFRTA is administered by a Governing Board of ten members. This includes one county commissioner, one citizen appointee, and one governor appointee from each of the three counties—Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach—totaling nine appointees, along with one Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Secretary.
On Track for Excellence
At the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA), we are committed to improving the quality of life for the communities we serve by providing greater mobility options. This Transit Development Plan (TDP) will help SFRTA develop the goals and strategies to enhance transportation services and support the economic viability of our region and establish what improvements, maintenance, and changes are needed for Tri-Rail over the next decade. Public input is an important part of the process and is highly valuable to SFRTA.
